1. Scheduling IOAs at scale

One of the challenges of administering Interactive Oral Assessments (IOAs) at scale is timetabling them so that students, tutors and the unit coordinator are all clear on who is assessing whom, where, and at what time.

Room bookings

For most IOA setups, you will only need a small room, or you could use your already booked tutorial room if you are holding these during workshop time. Ask students to arrive five to ten minutes before their scheduled time slot and make sure there is somewhere comfortable for them to sit while they wait.

Scheduling

If you have more than one other assessor, how much oversight you would like of their booking will influence your scheduling choice. You might consider setting up a schedule for each tutor so that they administer and assess only their own students. Or you might want a scheduling solution for the full cohort. If you have more than one other assessor, you will also need a plan for if they become unavailable at short notice.
